Weds Nov 18 11:00 am PDT / 1:00 pm CDT / 2:00 EDT Lean Culture: You Have Plenty of Time to Do Everything
https://www.meetup.com/lean-culture/events/317167983/
Most productivity systems are designed to help you manage your time, but for many self-directed workers, especially those juggling several projects at once, time may not be the resource that is the most scarce. Behavioral economists have found that attention, (ie. your ability to focus and think well) is a finite resource in and of itself. As your attention drains throughout the day, your work gets more difficult as your output gets worse.
Join 15+ year parallel entrepreneur Adam Starrh as he walks through what he’s learned about intentionally managing his attention alongside his time. Examine the hidden costs of decision-making, how managing context can make you more attention-efficient, and how to deal with the largest attention tax of all: uncertainty. If you’ve ever felt like you had plenty of capacity for something when you started, but couldn’t find room for it once it got difficult, you may actually be running out of something other than time…

Some key take-aways from Bootstrappers Breakfast conversations in October
AI came up a lot all month.
Bill Grosso gave a great briefing on Startups After AI at last month’s Lean Culture. His perspective is that AI is best understood not as a revolutionary new form of intelligence, but as the latest in a long line of productivity-enhancing technologies. Like compilers or garbage collection before it, AI dramatically increases what skilled engineers can accomplish. The real disruption comes from how this changes the economics of startups.
Differentiating from ChatGPT/Claude is a key challenge many AI startups face as the frontier labs continue to raise the bar. How do you differentiate from Claude is a question any AI startup must be prepared to answer.
Carlota Perez argues in “What is AI’s place in History” that AI is actually a continuation of the ICT build-out started by microprocessor in the 1970s. This would be good news if true.
- But a revolutionary technology is not the same thing as a technological revolution. AI is almost certainly revolutionary in the sense that it will spawn new technology platforms, transform or eliminate many industries, and create new ones. But it belongs to a much larger technological revolution that is still in the middle of its diffusion process, having already passed through two major stages of innovation. The first was based on microprocessors, computers, and software, and the second on the internet and the globalization it enabled.
- AI, robotics, and the Internet of Things (IoT) may well now constitute a third chapter. But the crucial point is that AI depends on the internet, which in turn depends on powerful microprocessors and computers. They are all part of the digital transformation, which centers around technologies that are mechanizing mental, rather than manual, work. Extrapolating into the future, one can imagine that the next technological revolution could be a wave of innovation combining AI with biotech, and a whole constellation of new materials. But we can still see them evolving within the deployment of an ICT golden age.
John Batelle does a gloss on Perez’ analysis in “AI is a turning point, not a revolution” and provides context from her book “Technology Revolutions and Financial Capital.”
Lightning Round Question for November 2026
What are three mistakes you keep making that you will reduce or eliminate in Q4?
These could be bad habits, mistaken assumptions you keep making, or traps you keep falling into. As entrepreneurs, we continue to plan new initiatives, projects, habits, etc.. but we also need to organize the abandonment of things that are holding us back or no longer effective.
“Who is strong? He that can conquer his bad habits.”
Benjamin Franklin
