Some key take-aways from conversations in June
- This talk by Dave Risich at Lean Culture on Entrepreneurship’s Ups and Downs provides a lot of practical advice on how to identify a niche you can target as a bootstrapper and work within an existing ecosystem as an add-on until you can gain enough traction to offer a full, stand-alone solution.
- Two questions we sometimes ask attendees to help them uncover prospect needs is “What are they doing three minutes before they open your app?” and “What are they doing three minutes after?” This comes from “The Three Minute Rule” by Anthony Tjian
- We talked about how entrepreneurs are portrayed in TV shows and movies. Here is a collection of documentaries, movies, and TV shows about entrepreneurs. Leave a comment if we have overlooked any you have found valuable or thought-provoking.
- Different entrepreneurs run on different sleep cycles. Some are larks who are more active early in the day, and some are night owls who tend to work late into the night. Here is an interesting overview by Charlie Gilkey on “Working with Your Chronotype” that summarizes the Lion, Bear, Wolf, and Dolphin model developed by Dr. Michael Breus’ in The Power of When.
- The video for Mani Doraisamy’s “Build a Canon to Kill a Mosquito Talk” at Lean Culture is up at https://www.skmurphy.com/blog/2025/06/09/build-a-cannon-to-kill-a-mosquito-with-mani-doraisamy/
